Developed by Texas A&M University, the TAM Jalapeño delivers classic jalapeño flavor with considerably less heat. Rated at 1,000–1,500 Scoville Heat Units, it is much milder than traditional Jalapeños, which can reach 5,000 (SHU). Plants grow 2–3 ft. tall and produce abundant yields of cylindrical, dark green peppers measuring 3–4 inches long. Ideal for fresh slicing, stuffing, pickling, salsa, and cooking without overwhelming heat.
Germination: 7–21 days
Maturity: 70–90 days after Transplanting
Genus: Capsicum annuum
Quantity: 20 Premium Seeds
Appearance: Smooth, thick-walled peppers with blunt tips grow about 3 inches long and 1–1.5 inches wide, ripening from dark green to bright red.
Flavor & Uses: Crisp, fresh flavor with mild heat—ideal for salsa, pickling, cooking, stuffing, or enjoying fresh.
Growth Habit: Compact, upright, bushy plants produce heavy yields throughout the growing season.
Growing Notes: Start seeds indoors 8–10 weeks before the last frost. After frost danger has passed and the soil has warmed, transplant seedlings 18–24 inches apart in full sun and rich, well-draining soil. Water consistently at the base but avoid overwatering.
Harvest Note: Pick firm, dark green peppers for classic jalapeño flavor, or allow them to ripen bright red for a sweeter, fully mature taste. Cut the stems to protect the plant from damage.
Note: Wear protective gloves when handling seeds or harvesting and cutting peppers to help prevent capsaicin burns to the skin or eyes.
