Serrano Tampiqueño is a traditional Mexican heirloom chili from the mountainous regions of Puebla and Hidalgo. Its crisp, thin-walled peppers grow 2–3 inches long, ripening from glossy green to bright red. With 10,000–25,000 Scoville Heat Units, it is about three to five times hotter than a typical jalapeño. Compact, vigorous plants reach 2–4 feet tall and produce peppers ideal for fresh salsa, pico de gallo, hot sauce, pickling, and soups.

Growth Habit: Compact, vigorous, bushy plants typically reach 2–4 feet tall.
Growing Notes: Start seeds indoors 8–10 weeks before the last frost. After frost, transplant into full sun and rich, well-draining soil, spacing plants 18–24 inches apart. Water at the base and keep the soil evenly moist.
Harvest Note: Pick peppers when firm and glossy—green for a bright, crisp flavor or fully red for greater sweetness and heat. Harvest regularly to encourage continued production.
Note: Wear protective gloves when handling seeds or cutting and harvesting peppers to help prevent capsaicin from irritating your skin or eyes.
