Italian pepperoncini is a classic heirloom sweet pepper prized for its crisp texture, mild tang, and gentle heat of 100–500 Scoville Heat Units. The slender, tapered fruits grow 3–5 inches long, maturing from yellowish green to bright red as their sweetness increases. Compact, bushy plants reach about 30–36 inches tall, making them well suited to containers, raised beds, and small gardens. Their thin, crisp walls are ideal for pickling, salads, antipasto platters, pizzas, and sandwiches.

Appearance: Slender, tapered peppers grow 3–5 inches long and ripen from yellowish green to bright red.
Flavor & Uses: Crisp and mildly tangy with gentle heat; ideal for pickling, salads, antipasto platters, pizzas, and sandwiches.
Growth Habit: Compact, bushy plants grow about 30–36 inches tall and perform well in containers, raised beds, and small gardens.
Growing Notes: Start seeds indoors 8–10 weeks before the last frost. Transplant after frost once the soil is warm, placing plants in full sun and rich, well-draining soil. Space plants 18–24 inches apart, water consistently at the base, and avoid waterlogged soil.
Harvest Note: Harvest peppers when they are yellowish green for a mild, tangy flavor, or leave them on the plant until bright red for greater sweetness. Cut the stems to avoid damaging the plant.
Note: Although the flesh is mild, sensitivity to capsaicin oil varies. Wear gloves if you have sensitive skin, eczema, cuts, scrapes, or hangnails, or if you handle contact lenses, because the oil can remain on fingers and transfer hours later.
