Hale's Best Jumbo is a classic heirloom muskmelon prized for its sweet aroma, salmon-orange flesh, and heavily netted rind. Introduced in California in the 1920s and popularized by grower C.C. Hales, its oval fruits typically weigh 4–6 pounds. The sprawling vines thrive in full sun and warm weather. Ripe melons develop a golden-tan cast, release a strong sweet fragrance at the stem end, and slip easily from the vine.
