Buttercrunch is an award-winning Bibb and Butterhead lettuce known for compact, bolt-resistant heads. Developed at Cornell University in 1963, this heirloom forms 4.5-inch dark-green rosettes with reddish accents, soft buttery outer leaves, and a crisp, sweet heart. It tolerates summer heat without bitterness, needs average watering, and resists lettuce mosaic virus.

Species: Lactuca sativa.
Quantity: 0.5g (approx. 500) Premium Seeds
Appearance: Features a lush, 4.5-inch compact rosette of dark-green and slightly reddish leaves. The outer leaves are smooth and pliable, while the thick heart remains pale yellow, crisp, and tightly layered.
Flavor & Uses: Highlighted by a mild, sweet, and distinct buttery taste with absolutely no bitterness. It is the premier choice for gourmet dinner salads, crisp sandwich toppers, fresh wraps, and delicate garnishes.
Growth Habit: A compact, space-saving head that remains low to the ground. It is an excellent producer for traditional garden beds, elevated raised tables, or backyard container gardening.
Growing Notes: Suggest sowing seeds directly in the ground as soon as the soil can be worked in early spring or starting them in late summer for a fall crop. Plant in full sun to partial shade in loose, fertile, well-drained soil. Keep the soil consistently moist but never soggy and harvest the outer leaves continually or cut the entire head at full maturity.
