Black Diamond is a classic heirloom watermelon prized for its large size, tough dark blue-green to nearly black rind, and exceptionally sweet, juicy, bright red flesh. Its glossy, solid-colored rind has no traditional watermelon stripes. Fruits usually weigh 35–50 pounds, with exceptional melons reaching 75 pounds or more. The crisp, tender, cherry-red flesh contains large grayish-black seeds and is ideal for summer snacking and cookouts.

Flavor & Uses: Exceptionally sweet, crisp, and juicy. Enjoy fresh by the slice, in fruit salads, or at summer picnics and cookouts.
Growth Habit: A vigorous, sprawling vine that needs ample garden space for its large fruit and long runners.
Growing Notes: Start seeds indoors 3–4 weeks before the last frost, or sow outdoors 1 inch deep after frost when soil is warm or start indoors 3–4 weeks earlier. Plant in full sun and rich, well-draining soil with plenty of room for vines. Keep soil evenly moist, especially as fruit develops.
Harvest Note: Harvest when the tendril nearest the fruit turns brown, the ground spot becomes creamy yellow, and the rind looks dull.
