Rind & Appearance: Smooth, thick, tough rind with a very dark green color and subtle bluish cast. Fruits are nearly round, typically measuring 15 inches in diameter or larger.
Flavor & Flesh: Firm, Bright-Red flesh with the Sweet Classic Watermelon flavor.
Massive Footprint: The vines spread rapidly, extending 6-8’ ft. in all directions within the first 30 to 60 days, producing massive melons that grow to 30–50 lbs. Provide plenty of room to roam or grow in a large garden plot.
Plant Spacing: Due to this aggressive sprawling habit, plants require 6 to 8 ft. of space between each other to reduce competition for nutrients and maintain airflow.
Growing Notes & Harvest Tips: Florida Giant is an older heirloom with no genetic resistance to Fusarium wilt, anthracnose, or gummy stem blight, so prevention is important. Grow in warm weather with 6–8 hours of full sun. Harvest when the ground spot turns creamy yellow and the nearest tendril dries.
